is it me or the rod

please help using a Penn Extreame 12ft.5 rod and a abu mag orange,loaded with 15lb line and 60 lb shock leader. When using a 5oz lead i cant get over 160 yards, iam pendulum and using a 8ft drop tried a longer one but just doesnt feel right for me. Is it time for a new rod and what would you recommend? iam going to use it just on the beach, as i have other for rock marks. Iam 5.8ft med build 12 stone was thinking of maybe a Penn swingfire or maybe a anyfish anywhere match or can you think of anything eles. cheers

Hello, could be a few things, maybe the reel needs tuning, that would cut down on your distance.

Or your not loading the rod properly, you probably need to be abit quicker on the cast, then the weight will travel outside of the rod arc compressing the whole of the rod, which will give you more distance.Laters jim
