Iv'e seen others sayin this that and the other about fixed spool reels, and just how they perform. Well I came accross a reel thats solid, large and realatively cheap. (not to sure what I paid for it me) but me and money stick together. Has a great Line capacity 230 yds of 30lb mono. Will easily take 300meters of cable braid. It's the Lemax GY9000. Ok so it has only one ball bearing, but its built like a rusian tank.

Oh dear, I am agreeing with Bassman again. I use Okuma fixed spools too mate, not the bottom of the range but the Pro 365's (now superseded by the Halogens which are basically the same). They get a regular once over with a spot of oil but basically take a lot of punishment from me. I recently changed and bought a Diawa 5500g as a back up but having examined it I am not at all sure at the moment that it will take the same punishment as the Okumas - we'll see.

Well I struck lucky and got mine a couple of years ago for £20 from a guy in Wales or some such unlikely place but I don't think you will find them anymore because they have been updated and now called the "Halogen". There was one website selling Halogens for £20 + P&P but can't recall which, I think the RRP is £30 but still worth it as they are 3BB and well put together. I would not use their bottom of the range stuff as it is not quite tough enough for regular fishing like I do - OK for kids and bit of summer fishing tho.

I use the okumas. which i like. but the best one i find is the daiwa emcast. strong, good cast. very reliable and quick retrieve, but i use multis as well.the emcast you probably get now for say 50 or 60 quid. i paid a lot more when they came out. cos i am not tight like the bassman. heehee lol. big grin big grin
