just done my bit.

there's just no sense in killing and throwing away undersized fish.

i'm prob gonna get my head bitten of now, but i think that commercial cod fishing should be banned from british waters for reasonable length of time to try and replenish the stocks. there are so many plentiful alternatives to cod available in our waters, as long as they don't get hit like the cod have.

this is just my opinion of coarse.

I agree bigguy but banning cod fishing all together is very difficult to do, because of the method they use to catch them. Gill nets are the problem here, the nets are put out and left there for days on end, the holes in the nets are so small that nothing can get through, and the fish drown because they are caught by their gills and they havent had the chance to reproduce, hence no fish in our waters!

If gill nets were banned you would steadily see an increase in fish stocks and maybe in a hundred years or so the stocks might get back to the levels they were at before the gill net reached these shores.

My suggestion would be, go back to traditional trawling methods so that undersized fish can be put back and the bigger fish taken, which hopefully would keep everyone happy, and stocks could reach healthy levels. laters jim

i only have a brief knowledge of commercial fishing so can't really comment too much.

surely the trawlers must see that the fish stocks are declining and they must have some practicle ideas on how to preserve the stocks whilst still earning a living. after all it's there livelyhood that needs protecting.

i agree with all if the commercial cod fishing is not more tightly governed then we will eventually see a heavily depleted species stop before its to late

I agree with everthing said so far but the problem is the British arent the only ones in these waters the Spanish can come in take the fish and leave us with nothing just ask the fishing fleets
