Hi
Have been using multipliers for years from early penns to abu 6500 gr ct and when the suns out and not much wind they cast great but you need a smooth casting style,Add a strong head wind cold and night time and freezing hands and troulble can start the last thing you need at night is a huge overun.Recently started to fish chesil at night after a break of a few years and have had some whiting and first codling for years and winding in a fish from over a hundred yards is hard work plus you have to guide the line on with your thumb.Heres the point had a cast with a mates penn new fixed spool and tried my sons new aierolex fixed spool and they are great reckon the distance cast is almost the same but the retrieve is so much quicker.Load the spool right up and you will cast just as far without any trouble.

beaver i agree the new fixed spool reels do cast well, i think to be honest its down to personal preferance and a bit of pressure from tackle shops and fishing magazines to buy multipliers but what ever you feel comfortable with you should use hey ho experiment youll soon find a setup that feels comfortable all the best and a very merry christmas to you all |
