Can anyone recommend a bib/brace/all-in-one set that will stop me and my boys looking like the total nancies we did when we left Deal Pier last weekend, after 1/2 hours fishing, because it was too cold? crying

Personally I don't wear that sort of kit as I found it a bit cumbersome for casting/beach work when I tried it a while back. Was out last night catching bass into the small hours with this set up: Insulated rain proof ski trousers over long johns, Regatta waterproof walking boots, lined work shirt topped with thick fleece and waterproof jacket, oh and of course obligatory woolly hat. All this gear can be used elsewhere too such as country walks. Northerly wind and dropping to freezing but did not feel a thing.

Layer up - that's what I do.

There are bargains galore for Mustad floatation suits at Glasgow Angling and there are also some Anyfish Anywhere waterproofs on Veals at around £70 a set.

I prefer the waterproof route rather than the floatation suit because I can bung them in the washing machine after every session to keep them clean.

- and don't forget to get a good hat.

Went today and used two layers of everything, was much better than last time freezing 2 miles from nowhere big grin

I can't afford to spend any money on waterproofs & flotations right now so I find it a good alternative big grin

You get wet! big grin big grin

If you want a damn good thermal layer, get to a motorcycle shop and buy some merino wool themals. Mine are Belstaff but Buffalo do something similar and they have a windproof layer in them too. Not the cheapest but having ridden a motorbike in the depths of winter I can vouch for their effectiveness.

For waterproofing, I have an Abu bib and brace which is ok and a Mustad smock which is very good but I might invest in the Anyfish set from Veals.

Other than that, it's layers underneath and a submarine jumper with a nice high neck or a traditional Guernsey. The hat is probably the most important as that's where you lose most heat.

you wont be dissapointed with the anyfish, but have a look at the IMAX also as it looks very much the same.

Lidl are doing some very cheap offers on thermal underwear etc. I recently bought a Sundridge floatation suit - jacket and bib and brace from Veals and a steal at £60. Keeps me mega warm, even so i only wear a vest and my smock underneath.

What i am going to invest in is a decent bavaclava sometimes a beanie hat is not good enough.

cheers

Don't do what I did last time, wear two layers of socks, trousers, shirts, jacket and coat. Get there and forgot to bring gloves.

Not half mate - those Angora thermal longjohns are great. Also got meself a pair of the waterproof snowboarders trousers then went down the beach for a chilly night on Friday. Quite honestly, the cold northerly breeze completely failed to get through those trousers, best £20 I have spent for ages.
