Never caught a flatfish myself crying
But I think I read that size 1/0 and 2/0 are used most frequently. Better to spend some time unhooking rather than missing all those bites while using a 8/0 Tope hook eh?

I use a size 4 for sole and 2 if I'm deliberately going for anything else. Fact is that flatfish are greedy bu**ers and seem to be able to swallow just about anything you put in front of them. Try getting yourself a Gemini disgorger. They're about a fiver and, once you get the hang of it, most deep hooked fish will simply drop off! It works for me and I've had a lot of smaller fish go back alive after a deep hooking that would have died if I hadn't had the disgorger.

Get the guy inthe shop to show you how it works (it's pretty straightforward but there is a knack). If he can't, PM me and I'll walk you through it.
