Day off work on Wed so looking forward to first attempt at beach fishing.

Places i had in mind were Torcross or Beesands ( free parking happy )

Planning on 10 am ish start, is that a good idea or better waiting till dusk ?

Also any suggestions for better places to fish in the SH welcome big grin

ah the beautiful south hams! all depends what fish you want to catch really
i prefer to fish at blackpool sands for bull huss and doggies. you can also catch conger. if you fish beesands try to fish in front of the cottages at the northern end there is a mussel bed off there! winking have had some nice plaice. the northern end of slapton at strete gate has a good run of bass this time of year! also if you want some flatties try east portlemouth walk up through the woods and on to the second beach. try fishing at night for ray with prawn. but if i was fishing in daylight i would go to east portlemouth for sure.

i hope i was of some help

tight lines buddy

Nemesis thanks for that - nice one, will report back.

Actually tried to find a beach at Portlemouth today that was described to me as a "paradise beach" instructions wer to park at Nat Trust car park, then about third of a mile walk past cliffs.... i must have taken a wrong turning cos i didnt even find the NT car park !!

The mussel bed you mention @ Beesands, where is that in relation to the pub ( cricket inn ) ?

Nemesis : OMG that place looks fantastic ! happy

Ok back to reality today - went for first ever attempt at proper fishing...
Me + missus ( for moral support and to serve the pasties and coffee)

Not much to report really sad

After calling at chillington angling centre for ragworm and a rod rest..... made our way to Strete Gate ( slapton)

I was having problems straightaway with line tangling - when i was just threading it thru rings ( think i was pre-occupied with keeping it beneath bale arm... ) Eventually sorted it and got baited up ( using pulley rig )

First cast went no where....

Tried again - well i was pleased with that one, went a fair way out.. until i realised that line had snapped, or more probable, knot between main line and swivel on rig had failed, consigning rig, weight and bait to a watery grave !!!

Undeterred by this, i searched out a spare pulley rig and lead ( this one had spikes ) but when i was sorting out another tangle, my goddamn nail clippers ( which i was using to trim line, knots etc ) fell to bits !!

Missus in hysterics by now - where did the moral support go hehe
Decided to call it a day, so finished off the food and drink then we were offski.

I think i will phone the local Kingsbridge angling club and sort some tuition out as i will probably just carry on making same mistakes left to my own devices lol

Savo ( down but mot beaten )
