Yellowtail kingfish, we caught alot of them in New Zealand 2 years ago, and lb for lb the best fighting fish in the sea.

Unfortunately from what I've read, the closest location is New Zealand with large amounts being found at southern Australia.
Perhaps another time eh? |

Very nice, how many did you manage to catch?
Also, which month did you go and how did the weather compare? |

Lost count how many we caught, but the biggest 1 I had was about 30lb and took over 20 mins to land, we went in March 2006. |

Just watched your youtube vid - very exciting! Those yellowtail kingfish look very similar to 'yellowtails' which can be found in Baja California, Mexico. Its a lot nearer, and cheaper, than a visit Down Under.
check out www.bloodydecks.com
and have a look at the posts under 'Mexico'. there's at least one thread with pics of yellowtail.
also, try www.vanwormerresorts.com
under their fishing/fishing reports section they list yellowtail as in season Jan-April.
good luck! |
