With the rod rings facing up the handle should be on your right and to load the spool turn it in a clockwise direction keeping the line under slight tension. Dont for get to pass the line into the levle wind before atacthing it to the spool. The Star is your clutch usede for playing the fish. the bass button in the center on the right is to adjust the end float on the spool, the lever on the top on the right is to release the line then put it back on to reel in. The smalll brass button on the left is to put your ratchet on or off whilst the button with the one red and several gold markins is to adjust the magnets when casting so that you avoid a birds nest. The reel you have is primary designed for uptiding but I have used it for beach casting as well. All in all a very nice reel for the price, well done, I have 3 of the as I run a junior club.

Number 1 is the Spool release
Number 2 is the end float adjustment
Number 3 is part of the assembly (not to be touched)
Number 4 is the star drag clutch

The other 2 controls on the other side of the reel are the ratchet and the magnetic casting adjustment, Hope this helps, if not give me a bell on 01254 605805. Best of luck, keith.

By the way I cannot see a level wind on your reel so ignore the section on this.

just so that there is no sideways movement on the spool and youll be spot on. If there is any sideways movement line can get trapped behind it, but dont screw it too tight as youll tend to wear the bearings out.
