Hi I've just bought a second hand Penn 525 Mag. I don't even know what the variouos contols are yet - can anybody help. Also does anyone know where I can get a diagram to see what fits where?

well to you have the obviouse things for example the ratchet (small silver button slides up and down) on the opposite side to the handle, u have the magnetic brakes adjustment control in either a screw or slide version depending which 525 mag you own and then you have the star drag etc on the same side as the handle. as for the silver things under the star drag i dont have a clue lmao |

ah so does that mean my tightening it right up your spool will be pushed up against either side of the reel causing it to slow...? I have to admit i have occasionally tightened it up when i thought it was gonna birds nest on me to slow it down.  |

Excellent reel. A bit more grunt and a higher retreive than some others which I like and a good handle that you can grip. Watch you don't accidently disturb the magnet setting once you have it right for a particular fishing session.It can be varied to suit many situations eg head wind. However if it is the "slidy" version which I suspect it is (movable slider on the top of the side plate on the opposite side of the reel to the handle) be carefull not to accidently knock it and change the setting when fishing. |
