Was fishing start point on saturday on the 15th and i hooked into something that i couldnt stop. I was using a Nemesis SLR 6-7oz with a SHV 30 with 30lb line and 80lb leader. i was using half a bluey and was fishing a way out into the tide, about 10 in the evening my rod almost flies off the stand. my rod was bent double but i couldnt get any line back, any ideas what it was? suprise

I know it is a bit too far west for them but, smoothhound are known for ripping line of reels and charging off.

Did it clear the spool or did you cut it in the end?

cheers

With 200lb trace and 8/0 hook you really have to be thinking tope. Given how more and more tropical fish are popping up who knows!!!

I could not see a conger moving that quick, but hey think positive it might even had been a rogue shark pratting around.

cheers

Same happend to me the otherday, caught a sand eel on mackerel feathers, thought I would cast it out for a joke. After about 20 seconds I get constant jiggles on the end of my rod then all of a sudden my whole rod bends down and my line is taken 90 degrees to the left in under 2 seconds!

If I was using a proper rig instead of mackerel feathers, maybe I would have found out what it was sad
(Yet again, I suppose even a dogfish would give quite a fight on mackerel feathers!)
