Look at it this way - what's the worst that can happen? Give it a go, for me, half the fun in fishing is experimenting and trying out new tactics. You can soon change a rig over in a matter of seconds.

Or are you thinking of doing the rattling from the shore with a soccer rattle as in ...

rattle rattle .. here fishy fishy .... rattle rattle.... "come on you beauty"...

Can't do any harm. Fish pick up on vibrations and rattlers are put in a lot of lures these days to make some noise as they fish.

At one time, when I used to a lot of boat fishing, I used to use a Cod Rattler, a 35mm film cannister with some BB split shot in it. This used to sit between the lead and the main line and was supposed to work on the same principles. I can't in all honesty say that I know if it caught me any more fish...but it certainly didn't seem to catch me any less.

I purchased a few ready made cod rattlers and used them on a wreckin trip out of liverpool and while everyone was into ling and conger I caught 2 cod one at 8lb and another at 12. These were the only 2 caught in a 12hr trip. So all I can say is that it worked for me. Give it a go. Keith
