Hi mate, Used to live in Exmouth and there were always some decent bass to be had there but at the right state of the tide; this is what I used to do: At low water, go to the public slipway near the river entrance. Use a light spinning rod with a shad or rubber eel plus enough weight to cast 50 yds or so (think I used about 1.5 oz). Cast straight across the channel let it sink for a few seconds then reel in fairly quickly with the occasional pull. Had plenty of decent bass this way - they have to come back down the river when it dries out and hang around in the deep water near the dock entrance until the flood tide lets them get up the river again. You can only do it for an hour or so but it worked lots of times for me.
Best of luck. |

I'll be at seaton for the last week sep first oct. At lymy I'll try live baiting for bass from the end of the cannon walll or the end of victoria pier. might be some mackeral about , try float fishing for mack, gar, pollock, pout. on the night tides two hook flappers for dogs, pout, There are mullet there I dont fish for them myself, allthough in june fishing for bass I DID FLUKE a golden grey of 2.5 pounds on a small joey fished down the side of the cannon wall

Used to be a bait and tackle shop (also sports) in Exmouth town centre (on he green), it's probably still there but haven't been for a few years. If you decide to do any wrecking, go with Mike Baker out of Exmouth. What he doesn't know about wrecking in the area can be written on the back of a postage stamp and he is quite a character. Not perhaps advisable to take any ladies though because his language is a bit colourful (highly entertaining tho'). |

Not sure further west but if you're near honiton, the tacle box in Lyme is good. fishing off monmouth beach near the Cobb can be good. when I was fishing off the North wall and again off the other side of the harbour there were too many holidaymakers around to make it any good. I didn't have any luck off Charmouth and when I went out in a boat all we got was dogfish! (that was early morning). Weymouth Angling Centre is good and there is good fishing to be had off Nothe Fort. Axmouth is more private fishing. I've never tried but it may be worth having a look. |
