Fished end of first half of the pier with two colleagues.High tide was 15.00 and fishing was comfortable although not entirly productve until 13.10.During this period our success was limited to two small whiting and a pouting. After the tide started running keeping the bait away from the wall was a real struggle and when it was achieved retrieval was not always possible due to snagging.Although i hooked into a small bass our enjoyment was marred by lost tackle and difficulty in keeping the baits away from the pier wall. The tide was 6.0m and we used local lug sometimes tipped with squid. Any advice on making future trips to this destination would be much appreciated (the pier steward was not very forth coming and the other present anglers seemed less succesful than ourselves)..............this report was by sea fishing org member oldsilverfox

" oldsilverfox " unfortunatly it sounds like things didnt go to well for you on this trip, but i guess in all each and everyone of us has a disaster story or two we could tell.
Sometimes fishing just dont click into gear on certain trips, and yet on other days things are so productive that it leads us to not understanding what went wrong.

Night fishing being the worse, especialy when at its worse we leave something behind thats so desparatly needed. e.g your head lamp, gloves, food or that so much needed bobble hat, and at its worse (YourBait).

Trips like this are sent to try us and at one time or another, weve all done it.
I guess in the main its saying BE PREPARED, we double check everything befor we leave knowing that the most important thing weve got is that golddust fresh bait. But at the end of the day if the fish aint biteing then they aint going to be cought.

Dover being a place that so many fish can be cought in one session that you just cant carry it all home.

Unfortunatly " oldsilverfox " sounds like ( one of those days ).

As for a future return here, fish the full tide up and the last couple of hours down.
Arfter that with out 8oz fixed gripp, its vertually unfishable.
But get Dover right and this place is a dream.

Thats fishing mate,,, better luck next time......... big grin big grin big grin
