Hi people,
Thought I'd post this for reference use.
I fished Brighton yesterday. The short arm pier beside the Mariner.
The high tide was approx 6.3 metres at 12.30pm.
Weather was windy, Sunny to overcast all day.
Upon arriving, myself and a friend were spinning all day. We came away with 36 Makeral. Our rigs consisted of feathers. A long cast was needed, we allowed the feathers to sink and then reeled in. Later in the day I tried a makeral head and fillets on hooks. I had no luck after about an hour with this set-up. Sea-Bass were definately around though (read on).
A chap further down from us caught 2 lovely sized Sea-Bass. When we arrived, the guy was catching very small Pounting. In the afternoon he used the Pounting as live bait, setup on a trace. This is how he caught the Sea-Bass.
A few other people along the pier brought in a few Makeral, but not as many as myself and my friend. Maybe their casts were short distanced, a bit hard to say really. The sea was very rough and choppy, water was shooting up and over the wall, drenching the fisherman. You had to be quick on your feet to avoid.
For future reference, I fished the long-arm at Brighton that runs along the Mariner twice in the last 2 weeks, and on both occassions I came away with nothing. Only one small red Mullet. The short arm is DEFINATELY the better arm to fish from.
All the best.[/u] |
