Fished Aldeburgh Saturday night from 20:30 - 02:30 low water was at about 19:30. Sea was flat and a clear night so if we caught anything it would be a bonus as the night was so nice. As it was between me and my friend we caught 27 fish, a mixed bag of whiting and codling, some of the whiting were keepers (if you like whiting), and one of the codling was just sizeable which went back. All in all a fun night and I will be returning next week end to fish the outgoing tide. |

When I fished Aldeburgh a while back, I went into the town & turned left (towards Thorpeness??) Fished a little way past the monument. Where does everyone fish in this area as there was no one else where I was! |

Hi Andy,
You can fish pretty much anywhere in Aldeburgh but most people turn right into the town and follow the road through the town itself, at the other end there is a car park on the left and you can go straight onto the beach there, be warned though infront of the big white building is a bad snag I know a few people who have lost alot of gear there. The other option is to carry on going onto the shingle track that runs just above the beach, you can fish all along there and it does get quite busy at times. At the martello tower there are groynes I had a few cod to 3lb there last year but with the strong tide there is a risk of losing gear on the groynes. The last option is to leave your car near the wooden gate (past the martello tower) and walk towards the light house, I have been told the fishing is better near the lighthouse but it is one hell of a walk! not tried it yet but plan to in the future. Oh and if you leave the car careful where you park it my mate got stuck in the shingle. |

Hi there seen your posts mate, could you tell me where the best marks are at aldeburgh, never fished there, but would like to, had a ten year lay-off, itching to get back into it, and also what baits you find most successful there.
Regards Wolfy  |

Hi Wolfy,
See my earlier post for the marks, personally I have had the most success infornt of the carpark (and the toilets are handy) with mixed bags of whighting, pouting, dabs and codling. they are not to big but withbetween 15 and 30 fish a session it keeps you busy a weight lift is a good idea as I have lost some gear whilst retrieving. The larger fish I have caught at the Groynes just past the martello tower but I have also blanked a couple of times there. I am told from 2 reliable sources that if you don't mind a good walk the nearer the lighthouse the better the fishing, but it is a long walk (not tried it yet). I have found that rag / lug on its own or tipped with squid will catch, but last year for the codling I caught on a pennel rig with 3-4 lug and either 3-5 mini squid or a whole large one, this stopped the smaller fish biting (most of the time) I have found that I catch the most fish after dark on a falling tide.
Hope this helps.

It's a hell of a walk to the lighhouse from Aldeburgh. You may be better getting a boat from Orford Quay. The harbour master (Ralf Brinkley) used to take people over to the Ness several years ago but I am not sure if he still does.
I had the advantage when I used to fish there that my father was the attendant of the lighthouse so we could get close with a landrover.
Lug and squid cocktails work well back then. Note that about 300 yrds to the right of the lighthouse as you face the sea can be very snaggy. |

Hi Orford,
You're right it is a hell of a walk (went for a wander at the week end) I wouldn't like to do it with my fishing gear. Apparently one of the local clubs issue keys to the gate for members and those with 4x4 drive up there, anyone know which club it is? and how can I join as I've heard the fishing is good. |

Think I might try Aldeburgh next time, or possibly Dunwich, depending on the weather. |
