I reckon its the blue sky reflecting onto the water which makes the fish feel like Mr Blue Sky too- which means out plugging tomorrow. Worth a try- Not from Clacton like- up the Colne
Whoosh- gone! |

I don't know about it making the fish feel good but it'll probably change their feeding habits.
The Colne has been like pea-soup over the last week or two because of the big tides and the high winds and one would suppose the Bass would have been tracking their prey by scent mostly. If the water has cleared sufficiently they are more likely to hunt by sight and come up in the water to chase brit and sandeel (yes there are sandeel in the Colne) which makes lures a realistic prospect.
I was down at the water yesterday and there was still a fair bit of colour in it but I'm tempted to try some surface poppers just for the hell of it  |

We've had a fairly sustained period of high pressure which does what it says on the met chart! It helps to steady surface motion and so the sediments (the turdy brown stuff) slowly drop out makeing the water clearer so that it reflects the sky colour better. |

I was testing out my new feathering rod at St Osyth tonight and there was a stiff onshore breeze.............and it wasn't quite as clear as it was supposed to be......well that's my excuse anyway. |

During May there is an algae bloom - around the Kent coast the fishermen actually call it May water - and the fishing goes right off when the sea is like this - Hod |

We have a similar thing occurr on the Colne, normally in late summer, with algea that glows in the dark. The local Mullet like to feed on it and you can see them swimming through it at night - it can blow your mind the first time you see it. |

I think it's called Phosphorescence.
Makes reeling in an empty rig more interesting |

It is May Weed and it totally ruins the inshore fishing for a short period. |
