Hi, I haven't been fishing for about 35 years and would like to take take my son boat fishing for his birthday. Can anyone recommend a good boat/skipper in the Chichester-Portsmouth area? How much is it likely to cost?
My son has a 12ft Ron Thompson 'Superior' carp rod with a Coronado CD50 reel, which was recommended by our local shop for 'general purpose' fishing on fresh and salt water. What sort of line will he need and, more importantly, what does he put on the end? :?:
Thanks in advance. |

Hey yellow wellies , theres a boat in portsmouth called jo Dan . heard hes preety good on nowledge of fishing and very highly recommended. i no that he fishes the solent, isle of wight and english channels. First thing i`d say that the rod an reel your thinking of taking isnt gonna be suitable for the fishing your going to be doing. You will need something around 6-8 feet long , preety pokey say around 20 to to 30lb class rods depending on where hes taking you. this you will find out on calling him on 02392 693448. Reels will be first choice multipliers wich you can pick up pretty cheap or risk a fixed spool if you wish but ive seen fixed spools blown to pieces on boats where they just cant hack it . Line again depending on where your fishing but some where around 20-30bs would be ok . This you could get a nice set up in a local shop for around £80-100 If your fairly local maybe popping in to hansfords of fareham we`ll be able to sort you with a nice set up with our huge range of rods an reels, again the boat might even provide all this , same goes for bait , lets say squid, mackeral and crabs should be fine, the skipper will probably be up together on all the seasons on fishing but the smooth hounds are being caught all ready!!! Maybe me telling you all this was a waste of time because the skipper could provide you with everything then theres no need to buy , but if not i hope this has helped you out a bit. Only thing i couldnt get hold of was the prices im afraid, but hes only a call away. Good luck if you go an let us no how you get on |

Thanks Charles. Someone else has mentioned the shop in Fareham to me, so I might pop down and pay him a visit.
I'll keep reading the forums to, so I that I know what I'm looking for before parting with any more money! |

before you spend a lot on gear, ask the skipper if he has rods provided. This would work out a lot cheaper, especially if you decide that you don't like it.
They can also supply bait. |

You can also try Peter Churchill
Moonshine Charter Angling, 77 Campbell Road, 023 9278 7295
operates out of Southsea Marina, I know he is booked up the whole of May however |

Thanks guys, I didn't realise that the rods might be provided.
Since asking the question, a friend of mine has told me that they've been out in Silver Fox with a chap called Brian and had a great time so I think I've found my boat.
-Now I just need to find a day when we're all available... |
