I caught a fish once. It looked like this (here's hoping I managed to work out how to attach photos to this site...) I thought it was my first codling, but then realised when looking at the phot months later that it probably was not. Do we think whiting?
What ever it was it was my first catch and it's a good photo (or at least it should be if you can see it).

You didn't go wrong! Miss-identification happens to all of us once in a while. I once thought (after a heavy session) that my mate was wearing a humerous false breast on his head. Turned out to be a policeman!!!   |

I would hazzard a guess and say that that fish is a very large pouting, and is the biggest one I have ever seen.
Was there a skipper on the boat? If so, he should have been able to identify it correctly.
Nevertheless, nice fish for the species. |
