So last week I am down the beach on a nice sunny day (yes we do get them on Hayling) and not catching much so I decided to do a bit of beach combing instead. It wasn't long before I found several lengths of line and the remains of two or three rigs from which I salvaged what I could and binned the rest. It was quite obvious that these items had been lost by getting tangled in large weed masses. So my question is, why go fishing when the sea has sizeable chunks of weed floating in it? I mean it's hard work, very frustrating, you lose tackle and trying to spot a bite very difficult.
If anyone ever wants to know about Hayling conditions BTW just drop me a PM on the day before, I really don't mind spending a few minutes letting you know. |

Fishing amongst the weed can be most productive. Smooth hound fishing selsey or the solent is a testament for that. The only downside is stopping your hook bait from being masked by the green stuff |

Hi Eccles. I see where your coming from and i can only speak from my view. Due to family commitments, i can only get out to the beach once a month and even the i have to 'book. a day' well ahead of time. So what ever the conditions i just have to put up with it. Iwishi had the options but family time comes first. I will drop you a Pm though when n ext down hayling |

OK Simon I assume you mean this coming weekend: 1. Big Dave and I went down last night - beautiful night, loads of whiting, nothing else. 2. Present westerly breeze will eventually turn north = dam cold but no weed. 3. Tides are in the middle of the night I'm afraid so old Eccles will not be out to play. |

Yes IMO although looking more than 3 days ahead is uncertain. That's what Martin Davies said recently not me. Basically heavy southerly winds are always likely to break weed free and blow it in with the tide. With westerlies it is far less likely and N or NW winds will push any weed out to sea from all of the Solent coasts. Thus with the winds turning from W to N over this weekend I can confidently predict no weed. There is certainly very little at present. |
