Venue: 3rd Shelter.
Weather: Mainly overcast but with a few sunny spells. Light breeze.
Tide: End of Spring cycle. (HT 14.30)
Rig: Two up, (size 4 Aberdeens, plus 'pearly' sequins) 3oz weight.
Bait: Lugworm.
Result: Two plaice (palm-sized) and one 'decent' flounder.
I deliberately fished light to target flatfish. (10lb mainline and snoods, 30lb leader)
All fish came within the final 90 minutes of the flood-tide and from about 50yds out from the pier. I had fished for about 2 hours 'straight down' but had not had any bites, apart from the tell-tale 'pull' of crabs.
The flounder put up an excellent fight and felt a lot bigger than it was in reality (I hoped it was going to be a plaice big enough to take home and eat, ah well)
All in all, a pleasant enough day, but a little more wind might have improved things.

At least you did not blank. I normally try the end of the pier and I have never had a keeper.
I thought I might give the pier a try tomorrow (Saturday) High tide is 3.30 which is chucking off time. Any suggestions on bait I thought Lug and squid? |

Good luck for tomorrow.
Re: bait, lug and squid should be fine. Perhaps you could also try 'tipping off' your baits with a small strip of mackerel, for an added scent trail.
