Oh dear?
I have earned a new handle! For the duration of this report I shall be known as One Codling Bob.
Me and Bigsi fished a mark on canvey island known as Cod corner? We began fishing 3 hours before high water just as the moon began to be eclipsed, That fact I hoped would enhance the possibility of some fish moving close in to feed. Well, infact it appeared to have no effect at all, and my nights experience was to be educational. Bigsi was fishing with lugworm exclusively on size 2 kamsans, and managed to scratch a tiny schoolie on his second cast, I chose to stay with the pennel rigged squid, and shellfish cocktail on a size 3/0.
With the first 2 hours gone, I had not even had a rattle and Bigsi was still only one little spikey up, I was begining to reason all the possible circumstances leading to this poor show. I had a chat with the big fella, and after a welcome cup of tea, we decided to make a move further along the sea wall.
Relocated and settled in to our new spot before high water, We baited up and put in a couple of big chucks, thinking to ourselves that come the ebb, we were gonna get some real action.
I know, I know, you’ve guessed it!
I kept banging those big baits out and getting NUFINK! And Bigsi stuck to the worm and size 2’s and scraped out few more schoolies, a couple of whiting and a couple of codling, nothing sizeable.
I had no choice, but to resign to the fact, that there was nothing living in that part of the sea that could manage my baits or hooks. Not being able to stomach a total blank, I reservedly changed the end tackle, and down sized to the size 2’s, I then went for it! and put on two lugworm, loaded them into the D and blasted them into the night sky bound for nowhere land. The wait for the bite was painful, but sure as eggs it came, you already know what it was! End of!
I couldn’t pack up quick enough after that, my bed was screaming at me.
On the way home, Me and Bigsi went through all the possible excuses or “contributory factors”???????? and surmised to no real conclusion, except the fact that our knowledge of that mark is extremely out of date, and we will not be wetting a line there in the future, without greater research or better understanding of the contributory factors! CLI’CHE, CLI’CHE, CLI’CHE.

That’s all for now,
Cheers all,

OCB..

Should have gone to orford!

COB

if you had walked about 600 yards further on mate you would have been at Scars elbow!
Much deeper water and Canveys best chance, except for the jetty, of landing a sizable fish IMHO.

I'll have to get myself sorted and get out with you soon mate.

Soleman,

I Know you're RIGHT, But every now and then I have to prove things to myself unfortunatly, still, better to have an informed opinion.
How about seeing if you can get your stuff together for a couple of weeks time, when the tides cycle back in favour, Be good to pick your brains being a local.
Did you get to go on the orford shindig?

OCB..

have never fished Canvey, don't know the island at all, but am intrigued by all the references I keep seeing regarding deep water and good marks. Can't find any of them on multi map.

Any information appreciated.

I don't know the other potential venues at Canvey either.
I have only fished at Scarrs Elbow (well, at least I think it is Scarrs Elbow; it is at the corner of a square-sided man-made inlet which is very noticable on the map. If this is not Scarrs Elbow I don't know what it is called, anyway, I always fish at the left hand corner - there is a big pipe that runs out into the sea) and have landed bass to 4lb in summer/autumn and coddling to 3lb in winter, moreover, all have been taken during the first two hours of the ebb when the tidal-flow is at its strongest.

Hope this helps.

scars elbow is actually the name written on the green buoy as you look out from directly behind the caravan park so i think people refer to anywhere along this stretch as that name, i have noticed myself by moving about that that some corners of the sea wall fish better than others on certain days

If its the place I think you are talking about, thats what is known as Cod corner.

Scars Elbow is near the first Octaine jetty. (very snaggy, but deep water).
Canvey point is always worth a try, If its easy access and fairly snag free fishing you are after.

OCB, if you let me know when you are looking to go again, (I need as much notice as poss due to working shifts), then I'll sort something out. Weekdays are good for me if you can manage that as I'm back into working weekends now for the next 4 weeks.

There is a nice little spot for fishing in the summer for those bass that you may be interested in.

Evening Fella's,

Soleman, weekday evenings are good for me, the tides that suit are coming up, say from the 15th onwards.
I'll send you a pm with my number, It'll be easier to sort on the phone.
I'm liking the sound of the sssshhhh! mark, I have something you might be interested in also, sssshhhh!
Look forward to hearing from you.

Cheers now,

OCB..

Sounds good to me OCB, I'll check my shifts for the next couple of weeks and sort out a date, defo cant do the 15th as its my sons birthday but I'm sure shortly after that will be fine.

As for the Sssshhh mark, I'm happy to share it with anyone that wants to know, I just wont make it public, I'd rather PM those that are interested, it's really a summer mark for when the bass are around.

I look forward to meeting up
