What is wrong with East Yorks Council, they have revoked the car parking at East Newton.
The guy who spent alot of time and money providing the area has now got to appeal to try keep it open.
Why if its his land and he is keeping traffic from parking out side locals houses a major issue.
Maybe because there is nothing in it for the greedy twits.
Any way had my moan........
What do you lot think?
Tight lines

Unfortunately, those who prvide a service at a cost less than the council will always be penalised as councils see it as a threat to their revenue.
I wouldn't mind but councils always provide just a basic service as required by law, such as parking and road repairs etc. and scream blue murder when some private individual does their job for them.
Rant over

I work for a council and we work bloody hard bending over backwards to provide services above and beyond the call of duty- often working after hours for no extra pay to pull people out of the mire for little or no reward only to be slagged off by people like you who can't be bothered to check facts before gobbing off.
Have you even had the courtesy to check the facts to establish why the Council has taken this action before you posted your rant. East Riding council planning officers have actually only recommended planning permission be refused - the owner can put forward his views to the planning committee this coming Monday. Can I suggest you check with the Planning Officer for his/her reasons before you blithely slag off Councils -as far as i can tell the council has no financial interest in the site and the landowner has failed to say why the recommendation is to refuse permission for the car park- maybe something to do with the payment method of debit / credit card via an expensive phoneline which can only be accessed with a mobile phone? The absence of planning application before the land was used as a fee paying car park? Who knows because nobody has bothered to ask.
Once you have the facts come back with a more reasoned rant. |

I can only speak from my experience in my area. What I say is true and is not ment to slag of any particular body.
The council in my area are slow with repairs to property, build a bloody big new indoor market without adequate access to it. Deliberately narrow the roads to slow down traffic, put bus stops on bends so that overtaking becomes a nightmare, licence dirty and in some cases unsafe taxis I say that because they are poorly maintained. Resurfaced a road 3yrs ago and are now having to do it again because it wasn't laid thick enough first time. Need I go on?
I dont dispute that you work hard and that you get no thanks for it.
But that possibly goes with the job as many others are in the same boat.
You could of course try a different occupation if you can't take criticisam

I can happily take criticism when it's warranted Rabbi thank you very much but not when it's based on ignorance of facts. This private car park represented no threat to Council revenue as you suggested. If you were only speaking of your experience of your local Council then you should not have generalised your opinion to apply to all Council's which you clearly did if you read the first sentence of your post.
Obviously the officers at Blackburn & Darwen Council have nothing better to do than to wage a personal campaign to inconvenience you and other road users. But if they are truly operating negligently in the way you say they are, write to the press to expose them publicly or why not contact your ward councillor to investigate your serious allegations. Or write to this fella:
http://www.blackburn.gov.uk/server.php?show=ConWebDoc.48451
People make a profession out of moaning and groaning about Councils but the fact is they have had their funding cut back over the years mainly because successive governments think it's a cheap vote winner to cut Council Tax bills- then people moan when they get what they are prepared to pay for. Just wait till the cuts really kick in- then people really will have something to moan about. |
