Venue: Mersea Stone area
Weather: very strong Westerly winds
Tide: Neap (HT 22.30 ish)
Bait: Big helpings of lugworm (locally dug same afternoon) and herring strip cocktail
Rig: Two Up 3/0 (clipped down) 8oz weight.
Result: 8 coddling between 3-5lb and few smaller ones.

This is one of the best night's fishing I have had for a long time.
It was a good job I never use a rodrest as it would have constantly been blown over. Holding the rod and with index finger wrapped round the line, I didn't miss a bite (well, at least I don't think I did) even though the rod-tip was dancing about due to the wind and constantly nodding due to the amount of weed getting trapped on the line.
Moreover, casting range was drastically reduced by the wind and it took all of the 8 oz to 'punch' it out about sixty yards.
Nevertheless, I persevered and my 'never-say-die' and 'take-tackleshop-talk-with-a-pinch-of-salt' attitude paid off handsomely.
Perhaps it was the very strong winds that made this 'unprolific' venue produce the goods, I don't know, but 'nothing ventured nothing gained'.

Oh, I almost forget, I also accidently sat down on top of my Tilley lamp and broke it, and had to apply a fire-extinguisher to my underwear.

Tight Lines.

Well done that man! I fish the other side of the water to you and had been wondering wether to head to Clacton tonight or stay closer to home, because I know from past experience that there is sometimes a good run of Codling in the river if you hit it right.

Now I know they are there I'll be down there tonight to give it a go

Well done again - feels great when you you get it right, doesn't it?

It seems that good angling does get rewarded after all! You certainly deserved success having done your research, dug your bait, and endured the elements. This is the level of angling skill I'm aiming for (if I wasn't so lazy!). Again, very well done, and a nice report, too.

Bang on Fish4,

I am enthused by your report, and impressed by your dedication to duty,
Your right about nothing ventured, nothing gained also.

Top hole Sir,

OCB.

If my memory serves me correctly, Concretes pants use to catch fire regularly during fishing sessions - had more to do with baked beans than Tilley Lamps though.
