Basically, the problem is that most fish have disappeared to deep water to breed at this time of year. The bream go first (October) then the plaice followed by the bass and cod. The plaice are usually the first to come back (March) but are usually dead thin after breeding so not really worth catching until they have fattened up a bit. I reckon Sean and I will start to target them in about three weeks time. Anyway, when we get to April, everything starts to turn up again then the fun begins. Almost any where along Hayling Seafront is good but we like funfair and Inn on the Beach in particular. If you are going for the early plaice, you need to be able to cast in excess of 120 yds. If you can't manage that, don't bother or get out in a boat. By the lifeboat station can only really be fished at neap tides because the current is so strong at other times and a lot of weed goes up and down once the spring weather gets going making it virtually unfishable. Having said that we have both had decent bass there at neap tides. Best thing to do at the moment is get all yer gear in good shape and make plenty of rigs ready for when the fun begins in a few weeks time.
