just found some cooked king prawns in the freezer left over from xmas, was going to use for carp fishing, just wondering if they would be any good as a sea bait.

Used to use cooked shrimps for Whiting when we were desperate for bait as kids and caught on them, though I'd have to say not as well as we did with worm and mackerel. The Salmon and Sea trout brigade use Prawn and Shrimp (so I've read) but fished on spinning type gear rather than as a static bait.

There's not much to lose but a few hours of your time and you never know until you try.....give em a go!

The key word is 'cooked'. Raw (and preferrably live), prawns make a fantastic bait for Bass, Wrasse and Pollock fished under a float or freelined. Not sure how effective cooked prawns would be.

Cooked prawns will be a waste of time but fresh tiger prawns have gone down well for us on the south coast. Have caught whiting and doggies on them.

Fresh tiger prawns to catch whiting & doggies? Sacrilege.

If it worked the other way round I'd have a go.

Its better than blanking! they are just another addition to the £30 a session we spend on bait for lug, rag, squid, mackeral etc
