I sneaked out to the pier from 12 ish to 3.30. Big tide, not raining - result total blank lost 4 weights
oneday i will catch a keeper from the pier. It may reqire a night licence for a night session - but I cant see why no big fish seem to be caught in winter, even though the water is not that deep. |

itgotaway,
Southend pier is cursed, Its anglers that keep trying to burn the thing down, someone even bunged the skipper of a ship to drive over it.
Good luck on the boat thursday

I presume you fished at the pier-head, that is just about the only place you will lose tackle on the pier as the ground there can be pretty snaggy. (It's one of the reasons I don't bother with that area of the pier, also the fishing is not very good there either - unless you are spinning or feathering for mackerel etc.)
The stem fishes a lot better, and you would have to be extra-ordinary unlucky to lose any tackle there. There is a deep wide channel that cuts a swathe across the seabed around the vicinity of the 3rd shelter.
Enough said.
Tight Lines. |

The pier head can be one of the best shore marks in the uk during the summer months. |
