i have a 12ft daiwa sandstorm, and for some reason i cant cast it far at all. part of its probably me being awful at casting, does anyone know whether the 12ft sandstorm is rubbish at casting? |

Possibly the rod is too stiff compared to what you used previously. you need to get it to compress by sheer power alone or take it to its maximum weight,

How far is not far? Any Daiwa will be capable of reasonable distances. Were you casting better with a different rod? |

my sonik sk3 13ft casts further, i cast only about 50ft with the daiwa. it is really chunky compared to my sonik, thinking of selling it and buying another sonik |

Could be the rod has more oomph as rabbit says. What kind of cast are you doing? otg? If so try laying the lead further round as in South African style. That will increase the load on the rod and hopefully it will go further. If you are just doing an overhead thump, it's hard to get much distance, especially with a powerful rod. |

sandstorms are great for casting
i aint a great caster by anymeans but i can hit 120 yds on a field and easily 80 yards baited up with just a light flick
perhaps its your casting action |

aston 74 you made a few mistakes in your previous post and i have corrected them for you hi mate
sandstorms are great for casting
i aint a great caster by everyone telling me so but i can hit 12 yds on a field and easily 8 yards baited up with just a light p#ick
perhaps its your casting action just dont copy me |

Hi mate,
got to admit I struggle with them too. I find the butt section about 6 inches too long, probably because I learnt to cast using course gear. At the end of the cast I find I'm cramped for space so lose a lot of power.

haha yeah, the butt length is adjustable since i have the multiplier version, but for my liking i have to say it's too chunky at the butt. I pendulum cast (really not perfected) definately not a rod for me, think i'll sell it this week
