Had a look at 2 spinning rods today, both Shimano and both rated to chuck 20 to 50gms. One was 2.7m and one 2.4m, the 2.7 having a stiffer blank. Is it fair to say they will both chuch similar weights similar distances, the extra length making up for the extra stiffness, or are they both going to fish in a completely different manner ?
Any other information on spinning rod actions and how they are rated would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Personally I have used an Abu uptider for years for spinning. This gives me the added advantage that I can swap over to casting a light sinker should I so desire. I think it cost me about £30 at the time (10 years ago) probably a tad dearer now. |

Maybe should have said I'm looking at spinning from the shore/rocks.
Don't want to end up with something that is too stiff to throw 15 to 20 gm lures, but too soft to pull in a decent bass or bream. My only previous experience is really trailing lines off the back of a boat so all this progressive action/tip action/ fast action jargon is a bit of a foreign language. |

I think the stiffer rods are better for fishing plugs and lures where the movement of the rod gives the swimming action. If you try do do the same with a soft through action rod the action is cushioned by the rod and does not reach the lure (the yanks call them jerkbaits for obvious reasons). |
