Fished from 12pm to 5pm (HT 3.30pm)
Weather: Bright Sunshine
Wind: 6mph
Wave action: None
Rig: one up one down
Bait: Lug (freshly dug by me that morning)
Result: Absolutely nothing, except two penny-sized crabs, not a fish-bite in sight.
Analysis: Venue probably better during darkness or cloudy/overcast day. More wind and wave action needed to stir up seabed to attract fish to area.
Tight Lines. |

Analysis: no-one ever catches a decent catch in Southend and gingerangler fails to see why others dont make a worthwhile journey up the east coast instead of wasting their time in Southend  |

that's shore fishing for you in Southend. Probably the worst shoreline to fish in the uk. |

with all those square miles of mud you'd think it would hold some decent fish. So you can't blame us for persisting. I've manged a few sizeable flounder & loads od schoolies - ultimate optimists fishermen, "maybe next time " |

Problem with southend is having to cast over a mile to hit some reasonably deep water!!! |

i am also an optimist - I never get anything from southend, the only fish over Min Size have been whiting from southend-behind peter pans and from Thorpe Bay slip way next to start of beach huts. But there has to be big fish. I am seriously considering getting a night pass for the pier as i cant cast far
The more I shore fish the better I think boats are. As I charter once a month on average and always catch with a chance of a real big one it is always justified after a few beach fishing attempts yielding next to nothing.
If you are prepared to spend about £50 join a charter on a trip you will more than likely catch have a good time and within 2 days be planning your next trip. And while you are feeding craps off the pier or beach it all seems okay as you are waiting for the next trip. |

Ive had probably hundred's of fish to 8lb of Southend Pier, but like anywhere you have to be there using the right bait at the right time. |
