hello, new to forum and a fishing novice
will be trying peeler crabs soon, please any tips on getting them on and making them stay on the hook?
also have some small edible crabs, can these be used as peelers?
thanks |

get some thin but strong bait elastic mate, roughly £2 from any tackle shop, it depends on the size of the crab but if they are a plump size you can cut them in half and hook them on to your hook, then just simply wrap the baight elastic around the crab whick is secured on your hook, pull fairly tight though, but not 2 tight as you will slice the crab and it will fall of the hook as you cast or it hits the water. you can also try and make some cocktails using the elastic, just experiment with differant baits, you never know what you will hook up.
hope that the bit of info helps pal. 8)

well rocket ive never even thought about trying to keep them alive, as i cut the little fellas in half, put a black worm on the hook first them tie half a peeler on pretty good then launch the said bait out and hopefully catch a fish.
Next time i try and use peeler ill try and use one whole and alive.

Hook the crab through the top at the back, then reverse the hook and push the point of the hook just in front of the mouth at the bottom, this should allow you to keep it alive, plus wrap a bit of elastic around it, if you want so you can cast. Iv'e never tried live peeler in the winter, as we can't get it  ,but i do use it most of the time Bass fishing in the summer and using them live is 200% more productive. |
