Hi everyone. just taken up sea fishing after my mother in law brought my 6 year old a rod and reel for his birthday back in november. been a couple of times over on cooden beach and all we had to show for it was a small dab(much to the excitment of my 6yr old). I need a few pointers to help me out like essential equipment required, best bait, hook sizes, what can we keep and how do we kill what we catch.. does anyone fish at cooden as when ever i go no one else is fishing. is there a best time to fish etc etc......

Hi matey,

Don't know your area, but someone on here will. Best bet for finding out what baits work best in your area is the guys on here or the guys fishing down on your beach or youe local tackle shop but as a basic pointer, lug, rag, squid and mackeral seem to be the basic staples most places. Get yourself some ready made rigs to start and then buy the kit to make your own and copy them. After a while, you'll start to make your own variations. If not sure about knots, have a look in the menu links on the left here at sea fishing knots and theres a section on rigs too. The NFSA size limits also in alink on the left will tell you what you can take home.
Hope that helps. Oh, and don't forget your shock leader!(if you're not sure, have a look in either the East coast or General forum. you can't miss the post theres a hundred and odd posts on it and it got really interesting!! 8O )

Cheers

hi martin

got your reply, no worries am working this weekend as well due to my rota , may be going wednesday eve if tides are right, but as a pointer to cooden/ bexhill area cooden is better at high tides & bexhill is better at low water i try to start 2 hours before a tide turn and see how it goes, fresh lug works 99% of the time and tend to fish 2/3 flapper rig at mo sand eel is also good or crab when avaliable. but u can fish tonight and catch loads tommorow do every thing the same and blank .

Hi, missed your reply again as have been unable to get onto web site?

Is it always best to fish at night? as long working hours at the moment is restricting me to weekends?
