I returned from a three day expedition on the Forth Tuesday evening and all I had were two 4" Pollack. I took with me lugworm, crabs, lures of all shapes and sizes, mussells, squid, the lot!!! but nothing. On my fishfinder though I can see there are quite literaly thousands of the blighters. I fished all the described methods and baits between Bo'ness and Burntisland, I fished all through the day and through the night( when I could keep awake)
I fished at anchor, on the drift, trolling, uptideing down tideing, on the float, in mid water, on the seabed Ahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!
Any body want to buy some fishing gear Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery cheap. crying

Bit of a sad story and I feel for you mate but don't you know where the local wrecks are? Many of them are marked on Admiralty charts and they are often fish holding areas. In fact the skipper I used to go out with knew every wreck in the area and what they were likely to fish like.

u'll struggle on the inner Forth from a boat. east side inchkeith can be better - on a good day.lol. the silvestra wreck off kirkcaldy is a bit better but all west of this are heavily silted and produce little..but u'll get mackies anywhere Burntisland/granton/queensferry.etc. see http://www2.jpscotland.co.uk/EN/en10wreck.PDF for rough locations + http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shipwrecks-Forth-Tay-Bob-Baird/dp/1904445748 for exact.

Hi there and thanks for the replies. First of all Im not selling my gear afterall
Im not beat yet. Having said that my collegues and I are totaly stumped,
as I said we can see there are absolutely thousands of fish on the screens of our fishfinders of all sizes but we just cant get them to take. The shoals are always midwater but for all the methods we use we just cant make contact. We know there are Bass, coalfish, pollack, coddling, mullet, from Longannet at Kincardine to Anstruther. Any suggestions would be welcome.
I know I have left myself open to some real comics but lets hear it anyway.

I think u'll find all these fish on the fishfinder/sonar very often are misleading - either floating weed in the fast currents or false echos from the cloudy water - high in solids.... think of a fish finder more a a feature finder... bottom contours gullies etc...hope i'm not teaching my grandmother to suck eggs .lol
I get often get loads of echos 'fish' but they are very very small - depends on the sensitivity setting you have. I checked mine out with a small 4" coalie.....it showed up a treat even when at 30ft looked a decent size fish .lol . suprise
