Help!
Ive been fishing near reculver (towards minnis bay in birchington way) on the shingle beach.
two weeks ago i caught two beautiful bass within 15 mins of casting out, i thought i was in for an easy run! it was bang on high tide about 1.30pm when i caught them, i was using rag worm on a simple 1up 1 down rig.
and then the tide turned and nothing.
a mate informed me i needed to be fishing as the tide was coming in so i turned up about 4-5 hours before, casting out and tracking back to the shore with the tide. Ive tried this twice now and i havent had a bite.
my question is, was my mate being as daft as a kipper?! in terms of the tide when should i start casting out?
also would i be more effective in catching bass at night and with different bait? |

plum pudding? you can only fish it there 2 hours before and 2 hours after realy, after the tide turns it tends to die. |

Hi. I fish reculver quite often. from the towers towards birchington 4 or 5 groins down so a fair walk!! I've tried all states of tide and now I get there as the tide turns and by the time I'm set up the tide is starting to come in and you miss the really shallow state of tide. (no waders). It comes in quite quick to start and it does depend on the time of year as when I catch.
I always fish night tide as I find it hard going in the day there. Also not after a blow as the weed there is a nightmare. in the spring catching dogs and whiting from the start, slacks off about two hrs later then starts again after mid tide to high tide and slacks of after HT.
this summer had a few bass from there and too many eels, few whiting. but the bass bout 2 hrs after LT and bout 1hr before HT.
in the winter its whiting all the way throught the tide, yet to score any cod!
if I'm going for a shorter session it'll be 3 hrs up and 1hr down |

thanks malo ive been using this info and putting into practise. I prefer fishing in the day right now as ive only just started fishing again and want to get into my stride before i go for the big fish!(trickier finding the time though!)
Ive been experimenting with all different tides and yesterday, after 3 sessions with sod all caught, i finally landed two bass only about a pound each but i was well chuffed!
thing is they both showed up at the same time like the other two bass i mentioned earlier in this thread. this time though they were about 2-3 hours after high tide but both near shore again and both caught with rag worm.
Im starting to think theres nothing down reculver apart from a pair of bass every now and then!!!! |
