Fishing has started to pick up out here and good catches of ray(including Undulated) huss, spurdog, pollack and even small tope were made during the recent week long International competition for Fanore and Lisdoonvarna SAC.
The mackerel are now in and a few can be picked up during most stages of the tide with dawn and dusk still being favourite.
During a short session this afternoon I managed 6 wrasse up to 4lb 4oz. It sounds better than it really was as 5 of them were under half a pound. I did manage one really nice Ballan which is the largest I have had from this mark

Also had quite a few nice pollack up to about 4 lb.[/img] |

All the smaller wrassse I hooked that day were typical tap-tap-tap bites, this one just hammered the bait and made a run for it. I thought it was a big pollack at first. |
