Strangely enough I couldn't find a thing out about this model .... its very unusual not to find a model on Google - the one mention of it on an Aussie site gave nothing away. The lack of response would also suggest that its not common.
If its a fixed spool then generally in my experience you get what you pay for with Okuma, the multis I'm not struck on at all but most of the FS models I've seen have been reasonable value for money.
it would be nice if someone could give you some hands on experience of the reel though. |

my appologies on the spelling.....
this is all i could find about the reel.
http://www.fishingmegastore.com/okuma-aquios-spinning-reel~1345.html
i only ask about it, as it is going as a freebie with a subscription to 'sea angler' and was wondering if it was worth shelling out for a years magazines in one go rather than popping to the shop once a month when i pass. getting a reel for esentially nothing is swaying me, but my experience of low end okumas is not favourable. ( though i love the higher end stuff)

Aquios doesn't look that bad - one of the mid-range reels and no doubt a clone of one of the enormous, constantly name-changing range of Okumas.
On the face of it, the Sea Angler deal looks okay (assuming you want 13 issues), but beware rolling debits - ie. a year later they will continue taking a subscription unless you tell them otherwise. |

A good friend has had an Aquios 65 for a few months and been very pleased with it. He uses it for general shore spinning/feather work over rough ground for pollack, coalie, mack etc. He's had pollack up to 5lbs. He's a beginner and outfishing us all with it and a Lineaeffe 10ft Power Spin rod. Downside: when he was badly snagged recently he put far too much strain on the handle and it snapped, just the end knob though not the arm, so fixable.
My brother in law just got one and I'm thinking of going for one this week as my Daiwa BF-5500 has I think bitten the dust. I would have gone for the Sea Angler offer but missed it.
Is there a better mid range fixed spool reel for £30? |

Just a quick note folks:- FS reels are not really meant for hauling in large weed monsters, not sure that many multis are either. When it comes to it, I carefully get the weed in fairly close to the water's edge then put the rod down, wind the line around my arm a couple of times and keep hauling by hand until either it snaps or I manage to get the weed onto the beach where I can attack it. |

Really good advice that ... the only thing I'd add is to be careful wrapping it round your arm as if the line wrapped round suddenly slips it can cut through your clothing (I ruined a very expensive jacket once that way) .... make sure you wrap it round 3 or 4 times.
I don't know the reel at all but there is some logic you can apply ... albiet that Sea Angler isn't that cheap these days they are going to be losing a lump of profit by giving away the reel free, so you can draw your own conclusions on how much you think the reel is worth and the level of quality that amounts to. Buying stuff in this price range is a bit of a lottery .... some people get a reel that lasts for years but others get one that dies in a week. |

I've seen the offer in Sea Angler - Think of it this way ... If you buy the magazine each month anyway, then doing a subscription isn't going to cost you anymore, can be done at £10 per quarter (the way I done it) and you have a reel that has cost you nothing!
I got my Petzl headlamp that way and it is great. |
