Bought a sl20 as a spare 'rough' reel. Heard they don't come with blocks fitted so I did them, gave it a little oil and filled it with some 20lb ultima. I've only used it off a clean beach (straight through) a few times for flatties and the anti reverse seems to have stopped working. Problem being is..I may just have tightened the screw on the handle a liiiitle too much and now it's rounded so I can't open it to peek inside.
Any one have any words of wisdom? Think maybe I can drill the head out..then drill the shaft..tap it and replace the screw? But then i'm only half way there because of the anti reverse lol
Thanks in advance |

Don't drill it ... thats very much last resort. Am I right in thinking you are talking about the screw in the keeper plate, which stops the handle nut from coming undone? If so there may be an easier fix.
Is the the keeper plate plastic? If it is you can sacrifice that as its cheaper to replace than a handle. Use a hacksaw or a dremmel to cut down through the keeper plate to the screw and cut a slot in the head of the screw so you can undo it ... you'll need a new screw and keeper but thats cheaper than a handle if the drilling goes wrong.
When you get a slot cut make sure to let some wd40 soak down into the thread of the screw overnight and then try it in the morning. |

Big thanks to the daiwa team. All sorted now. Hammer+Screwdriver = free screw. Replaced with a new one and managed to fix my anti reverse at the same time. The pawl wasn't sitting right but it's all good now |
