Hi, another milestone, so i thought i would share a little story with you. Its been a bad new year, If it could go wrong it has. It started a few months ago, I got a call around 18.30ish from my youngest daughter steffy. She was hysterical, Keelen her youngest of 2 and just over a year old, had just choked to death on a grape, she tried desperately to revive him while waiting for the rapid response, and they got there within 5 minutes, the ambulance also arrived, and they couldnt rescusitate him because they couldnt dislodge the grape. It took 25 minutes to get it out, by this time he was bleeding from the mouth etc. they did all they could in the ambulance, then rushed him to hospital. By this time i was on my way to my daughters and followed them when i picked her up. to keep it short he wasnt expected to survive being without oxygen for so long, but they perservered with him, shortly after the got him on life support and managed to stabilise him, having done that a specialist team and ambulance came to take him to leeds where they were better equipped to look after him. To keep the story short, it took a couple of tries over a few days, but they managed to get him breathing on his own. they did all kinds of tests, and found out he is 70% brain damaged, The parts of the brain affected meant he couldnt eat normally, so had to have a feeding tube in his stomach. He wouldnt be able to walk, talk, or hold himself upright, or hold his head up. When he was brought home he had a specialist team to do everything needed, ie, give steffy training etc on how to care for him. But then things changed, within 2 months, he started eating, (soft food only) he managed to say mummy and daddy, he holds himself and his head almost upright, and to cap it all, steffy phoned yesterday and told me he had just stood up on his own, the team saw it, and said if he can do that he will walk again, his right leg isnt straight and hes having special shoes made to help him, but hes completely amazed everyone because he shouldnt be able to do anything. So now the whole plan of action has changed, and keelens left the experts going through his scans trying to find out how hes managed it. He will be having more scans etc to try answer the question of how, but i think they just forgot to tell him he cant do it, and as we all know, if you leave kids alone they always do what they shouldnt. So considering all thats happened over the years, i couldnt have used my 3,00th post for antthing better than this. Cheers...Mick
PS, i know this isnt fishing related, unless you count the fact that one day soon i might be able to take him crabbing in the rockpools at filey, like i have with all the others, plus its possible in the not too distant future i can introduce him to fishing, start him off with a crabline |

Hi Mick,
I think you have marked your 3000th post with a remarkable event that shows us all that when we believe all is lost, sometimes it isn't and that in the darkest of moments we should have hope.
The path of life is one which can change in a moment. Its what we make of the journey that is important.
I look forward to seeing your posts reporting on the crabbing.
I am not a religous man but sometimes miracles do happen.
All the best.

You brought a tear to my eye reading that Mick, both of sadness at first then joy - and I don't even know you!
Shows what an old softy I am. We can only pray that he continues to improve day by day - it's a miracle.

What a wonderful 3000th post nothing short of a miracle hope your grandson goes from strength to strength Mick. And if he is anything like mine he will soon be whooping you at your own game either bigger or more fish. |
