I didn't get out much in June but managed a last day session with a couple of lads from Dover SAA.
The day started too hot to wear a sweatshirt to walk to the mark but by the time I had set up the sun had gone and had been replaced with rain and gusting wind.
Weed was quite a problem for the first hour but became more manageable around low water.
Fishing was consistant with all of us landing rays and dogs. I even had a flounder that had taken the skin of a mackerel on a pennel 4/0 rig.
We ended up with six rays, twelve dogfish and a flounder.

I think this is a thornback but it has unusual markings, very few thorns and completely smooth skin like a stingray rather thsan the normal abrasive skin of a thornie

Just one rig, the mark is fairly clean but the weed does drag you into any snags there are.
It's a small inlet on the estuary and I only fish it 2 hours down to low and two hours back up again. The rip gets too bad and it is impossible to hold bottom. |
