Hi All. Not sure what forums are where and who is online for chat or not. Question: Is a 5 oz bomb better than using one with wires for beachcasting?? Lost loads on the weekend to sea weed and shingle. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

No simple answer to that question as a bit more info is needed.

May be able to help if you can answer the following.

Are you using normal beach gear i.e. a fairly stiff rod, reel and line of 15lb breaking strain or stronger?

Are you using fixed wires or are the leads of the breakaway type?

You say you are losing leads to shingle - are you sure there are no rocks/snags in front of you? Were other anglers nearby suffering the same fate?

Hi sarason,

It depend on the tides really mate.
If you got a strong tide then you need to step the weight up and use leads with wire breakaways.
Also it pays to explore your venue at low tide so you can assess the layout of the area where you will be casting.

No doubt you will get even more advise from more knowledgable anglers than myself.

If you want to know who is online, look at the right hand column of the homepage. It will list which members are on.
