hi all
i have a predicament
i am fishing on a budget here, but i need to get further with my casting
at the moment i have 2 x shekespeare in2 rods and fixed spool reels
when i cast with these with maybe a 4 or 5 oz lead i can get approx 70 yds but i feel the rods aint man enough to go further ( they bend like hell ) its a bit scarey sometimes i am waiting for them to snap !!!!!!!
my casting action is fine i have been told but can anyone suggest a cheapo rod with more oomphhhhhhhhh please
all i want is the extra 30 or 40 yards to get to where i want to be
thanks for any advice |

Seeing that you are on a tight budget all I can sugest is the fladden powerstick or the Fladden beachcaster, If my memory serves me right both are capeable of casting 9oz.
Cheers

The IN2's are carbon/fibre glass composite rods I believe which is the main reason why they are floppy - probably a bit heavy too although I have personally not tried one. In order to get more casting power you really need an all carbon rod in my opinion (assuming that you have a power casting style such as "off the ground" or "pendulum".) Problem is that "all carbon" rods are not that cheap - I don't know of one which is less than £60-70 and many are more pricey than that. You will either have to fork out or try to find one second hand. If you decide to spend some money, several of us are prepared to make suggestions depending on what kind of fishing you want to do.
BTW don't assume as many do, that the fish are always 100 yds out or more - after dark a lot of fish come close in - no more than 30 - 60 yds. |

thanks guys
i will take a look on fleabay for something a little stiffer, i appreciate what you are saying about the distance of the fish, i fish close in at grays, but if i go to other places i feel as if i am falling short sometimes
those few extra yards can mean the difference between catching and blanking |

Hiya Roy, might be worth 'checking' out the 'Shakespeare Tidewater' range, fixed spool rods @ £30, or the 'Shakespeare Salt surf ' rods @ £70, both of these rods have a bit more in them and they are carbon, they will improve your distance without breaking the bank.
Cheers .......JOLI |

Blimey mate, what do you want 50lb line for? Are you going tope fishing or wreck fishing for big congers? I think £16 was a bit pricey too. Most beach anglers use 15 or 20 lb line which is fine for almost anything you are going to catch from the beach. Personally I use Okuma ultramax 20lb line and the last 4oz spool (800+yds) I bought cost less than a fiver. |
