Splashed out yesterday when in Belfast yesterday and bought two new 12' beach rods and reels. Not dear stuff but better than my starter kit. So was itchin to get a chuck or two in.
Headed down to Browns Bay beach for about 10:30 to fish the incoming (aprox 13:00). Using the final few fillets of mackie from last year as bait. Was using two hook flappers size1, with no joy.
Gradually building confidence in the new gear, giving an extra bit of power each cast.
Changed rigs on both rods to a pulley, size1 and fished 'til almost 15:00, Still no fish. Just as mind was made up to head noticed one rod slacken, and reeled in to find a nice wee flounder on it. Very quick pic taken and back to the deeps it went.
Nice end to a rather empty day.

Things are still very slow down here Ed, no mackerel showing yet. Met eleven lads fishing a good mark down on the Shannon.I walked past them and set up about five hundred yards from them, when I came back they had only had seven dogs between them.
A few more weeks of good weather should sort things out.
Well done on the flounder.
