What types of flatties are you trying to catch and where have you been fishing for them?

Hi,

Flatties prefer sand mate......
Fairly small hook and they do like lugworm...
They will even take worm that is not exactley fresh... 4 or 5 days old.

If you ever have the oppotunity to fish the Thames estuary at night from a boat, then try it...

Light tackle, similar to what you would use for fresh water fishing..
It's great sport, and they do put up a fight.

Flounders prefer rag in winter, crabs in summer, dabs like slightly smelly lug and plaice take all sorts of baits. There are no hard and fast rules with flatties. Best rig to start with is a three hook flapper, but you may be more sccessful using booms for flounders.

I've had sole off a running ledger rig with a long trace held down with split shot and a selection of coloured beads and sequins and a 2 size hook with a rag/lug mix.

thanks for the replies, much appreciated, the lurning curve is getting ever steeper

i have not tried to catch any yey but am wanting to try something different, i am thinking of trying weymouth pleasure pier just on the edge of the harbour, the sea bed is sand and not paticulary deep. i know that there are flatties as i have seen one in the shallow harbour!! is it better to fish in the evening and on a incoming tide or can they be caught anytime and will they bite at mackerel?

will a single flapper rig catch one?

I like the helicopter rig for sole with size 4 hooks. On the Suffolk coast rag tends to catch the most soles, but lug gets the bigger ones. Soles and flounders come very close to the shore and soles are generally nocturnal, but flounder fishing is better in daylight.

As it appears that I have been promoted to master, Doctor Who had better watch out.

It can be worth tipping lug off with mackerel for dabs, but not too big a piece. Up North they tip off their worms with mackerel for flounders.

As I said. How long is a piece of string?
