If I took offence at something you didn't intent to then perhaps you should make what you mean clear .. .lets put it this way my post was discounting a lot of the uneducated criticism that is often levelled at multis, you instantly jumped to the conclusion that I was against all fixed spools and stuck in the mud. |

With hindsight I probably should have done this a while ago. Given that whatever I say will be taken as a personal insult there is probably little else constructive to say on this thread really.
Just be way of a summary,
# I use both multis and FS
# most people are open minded enough to realise that problems with multis are generally to do with the users technique rather than the reel.
# Multis aren't the monsters they are sometimes painted out to be
# its fine to use either, whatever suits
As a final comment I will add from professional experience - there is absolutely nothing much new in angling and particularly in reel design. Most new stuff is generally old ideas re-badged or fine tweaking of something with a flashy name. As examples, the oversize line roller on the FS reel and magnet brakes commonly used in multis are both developments from the 1940s! I hasten to add I wasn't around then. |
