I wouldn't recommend it myself as it primary a light boat reel. I would think that if you wanted a dual purpose reel the old Abu 7000 would be ideal.

If it has some kind of a brake ie centrifugal, then it should be ok providing you take it easy at first. A great reel which does both, like rabbi says is the abu 7000 |

The Abu 7,500 is a dream to use , a vast improvement on the old 7000 which I thought impossible

The old 7000 was a cracking reel, it just had to be tuned down a bit for most people as the centrifugal brakes weren't really up to controlling the heavy spool when full of line. Give them a full set of brake blocks, some heavier oil in the ends and a slightly underfilled spool and they are a different reel. Put a mag conversion on them and they are a very docile and usable reel. |
