hi all , i have a 2001 mariner 40 hp 2 stroke with a bit of an idle fault. bin goin fru google searches abit but not much help.
just got a poor idle all over the place runs fine in gear all speeds but at idle from cold very slow ,chocke flap makes little difference ,when warming up starts to increase idle and smooths out but then starts to kick/pop back thru carb and you can tell there`s somthing not right with the idle(no confidence) have had carb off and cleaned out, thinking poss lean popping do i turn in air srew a bit ??? not sure on timing adjustment?
any ideas welcome in advance. thanks jamie

hi harv02redred, it sounds like you may have a little bit of water in your fuel, this will happen this time of year if you leave a plastic fuel tank in the cold the tank sweats inside try fitting an inline water seperator on your fuel line and see if it solves the problem, i have had a few people in my local harbour with a similar problem and the seperator seems to be sorting it out

Does sound like a fuel issue, lean fuel noise would be more of a sneeze through the exhuast, idle screw should be 1,1/2 +- 1/4 turn out from memory, could just be the cold weather, how olds the plug?

take some fiel out of your tank put it into a clear container and let it settle you will see if there is water in there as it will seperate
