Most bass seem to be taken fairly close in - no more than 50 yds. I am going down the beach today, as we seem to have a nice day for a change, and will be chucking out limpet between 30 and 40 yds. Not sure where to go at present but probably somewhere around sandy point as we have been doing the funfair area and that seems to have died off a bit lately (just a couple of schoolies on the last trip). Sean will probably not agree with me because he always rates the funfair, but it is not his turn to pick the spot and I want to see if there might be some dabs around in the calmer water today. |

Only once did I buy slipper limpet from a tackle shop. Since discovered that it is often available on the beaches (especially gunner point, and funfair to Inn on the Beach) and generally after a good blow. Thus living only a mile up the island, we nip down there, get a sackful amd bung it in the bait freezer for future use. |

Ok Skilling, you asked so here goes: On Sunday night fished the rising tide at Chichester Harbour entrance channel (about 400 yds s of the lifeboat station) usually a good spot but absolute zilch. Two three other guys there had the same result. Last night, did the same near the funfair with fishing buddy, again usually a good spot, but this time just one small whiting between the two of us. I suspect that we have reached that time of year again and we won't now see much action until April (same happened last year). Sean and I have now agreed that we are only going when the weather is kind and we will go to Eastoke/Coastguard Station where the water is quite deep at high tide. Purpose: Chuck some squid out as far as we can in the hopes of a passing cod. Decent cod do occasionally turn up at Hayling but only at night of course. |
