Hi all

I have never fished Chesil before but am planning on a trip there this Wednesday.

Where would be the best part to fish, park etc. Also what bait is catching here at the mo?

I know this is a well worn subject but any help would be most appreciated.

Cheers and a Merry Christmas

Taff

happy

i find abbotsbury as good a place as any this time of year.
using razorfish can catch larger whiting,
lug tipped with squid, or lug wrapped in squid catch codling.

havent been recently, but have heard of the tide washing up a bank 120 yrds out which is only 10ft deep.
inbetween this and the shore however there is a trough which is as deep as normal and there are fish feeding here, so long casting is not needed at the moment.

Well I fished Abbotsbury yesterday with a mate. Load of anglers on the beach. Fished from about 1pm thru till 6pm. Big surf made it very difficult and made retrieving your rigs nigh on impossible. Lost lots of tackle and was virtually impossible to see a bite. Suffice to say not one fish!!! I only saw 2 doggies and one very nice whiting landed by the anglers close by all day.

Very frustrating day but I will return!!!

Cheers

if you look at the wind forecast for direction and strength, say,
http://www.xcweather.co.uk/
.... and then this site
http://www.channelcoast.org/data_management/real_time_data/charts/?chart=68
you will get a good idea of whether to bother or not.
If the wave height is approaching 2metres certainly don't bother especially if you are unfamiliar with the beach.... if you look at the max height line on the graph you will see it went above 3 metres, 10 feet, yesterday afternoon.
If you caught in those conditions you have the problem of landing it through the surf, and risk drowning if you go down off the shingle ridge to try to land it.
