Not better different, smaller and a tad lighter than the 6500 - a narrow 6500 if you like but every bit as capable as handling the same type of fishing and ground as the 6500. Very nice to use (use one myself with 10 or 12lb line for all types of fishing including distance work) but doesn't hold as much line as a 6500 which could be a problem if you like to use heavier lines such as 18 or 20lb.
The only other point of note is that they are a little bit flighty on the initial release of the cast if you have the mags set a little too low or your style is not as smooth as it could be (I think because of the lighter spool) but its only a matter of adjusting the brakes accordingly - I probably only notice it because I use a 6500 more often. They go very nicely on a Bass rod! |

What a cracking reply, very informative especially the point about the reel being slightly more difficult if your casting is not up to the mark and that it may be a problem when using heavier line.
I myself love using a carp rod from the shore because of my disability, being lighter than the beach caster I don't have to put so much power into my cast and I was wondering if such a reel would pair up with a carp rod?
Cheers

Depends on the Carp Rod. It would go quite nice with a 2.5lb - 3lb one with a tippy action I reckon (which is a similar action to the lighter bass rods) but multis in general are not that well behaved on through actioned soft rods which really are better with a FS to be honest. I've used it on a Whytchwood (spelt correct?) 3lb tc Rogue with 2oz and it is fine but I prefer to use a light FS reel rather than the 5500. |

Thanks for that, it saves me buying a light muti as I have quiote a few f/s reels in my armoury so I will possibly team it up with an Fox Fx1000 or would the Diawa regalplus 4500bri be more suitable?
Cheers

I've not seen the Fox but the Daiwa looks a good sort of balance for a carp rod, about 200 yards of 15 lb line, drop that to 10 or 12lb and you have a good quantity of line on it. I also like baitrunners as you can lob a big bait in close on calm nights and let a Bass run when it takes. Brilliant set up for the summer, you can spin, floatfish and light ledger all with one rod and reel and if you pack light you can get mobile to look for the fish. It makes for a much more enjoyable session sometimes. Probably the only downside is it can't handle heavy weather or currents. |

Have one of those too, good dependable reel. the sideplates are chrome on brass which makes them slightly heavier than other models but they are a lot stronger and don't rot like the ali ones. |
