Just back from a last minute hol to the Red Sea in Egypt. No fishing allowed, as the area is a protected coral reef. Shame, as I saw some amazing fish when snorkelling.
Closer to home but still involving a flight, anyone interested in a day trip to Jersey for some winter fishing? Big Bass and Mullet are caught there in January. A return flight from Southampton costs £24 on a Saturday when booked in advance. Makes a change from Sandy Point! |

Funny you should mention that area as i was looking at Alderney yesterday.
Flights about the same price.
£20-£30.... no doubt taxes and marketing bull$hit involved so im thinking more like £50.
Tempted mate very tempted. |

Have you got a rough itinerary Col? Presumably a stupid-o'clock start, but where do the bacon and eggs fit in etc, etc....
I can sleep in my waders to save a bit of time on the morning |

Silly question possibly, do the rods get stowed underneath? Is it possible to get away with hand luggage with waders, boot, tackle, rod and general other bits?? |

I would defo be interested in a jolly boys trip to the CI's.
We would probably need to hire a MPV for a day but between us it would not cost much cash.
Need to do a bit of a web recci to suss out marks or guides?
Doesn't appear to be a channel islands section on this forum for advice.
I believe that the Channel Islands are duty free which could pay back the costs if you stashed up on baccy

See how a plan comes together when great minds start thinking.
Just costed a return flight for Saturday 16th January, as an example, Southampton to Jersey. Fly out 8.30 am, return at 6pm. Flight inc taxes works out at £72. Each bag checked in costs £17 return.
I have a contact in Jersey who is very knowledgable of the area and would point us in the right direction.
Small items of fishing tackle could be carried in hand luggage and our waders carried in one large bag to be checked in.
Depending on numbers, a taxi from the airport could take us directly to the chosen venue with instruction to pick us up in time for the return flight.
Thoughts please, gentlemen. |
